3/31/24- The Finish Line

Blogger, the time has come for me to wrap up this project. Today, I have finalized my CCR Scripts so now, I will be filming! I do not have too many concerns with this so hopefully all goes well after my concerns with my film opening. I had a lot of frustrations coming out of editing my film opening, however, I fixed everything that I needed to the best of my ability. I posted my first CCR Script in my previous blog post so now I will show you my second CCR Script which I am really proud of...

                                                                           CCR Script

Hi, My name is Samantha is this is the second part of My Creative Critical Reflection. The question that I will be discussing is How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Coming into this class, I did not know much about film or its industry. As the past month has moved along, I have learned more as the project progressed. The number one aspect used in this project was research. Not only did I use research to simply gain knowledge, but it also had a lot to do with inspiration and ideas that I had for my film opening. In my blog I discussed how I viewed my favorite film openings and what I liked about them. By taking into consideration my likes and dislikes, it gave me a vision for what I would like to see in my own film opening. I researched genre, cinematography mise-en-scene, and other elements that should be considered when creating a film opening. This research had a massive impact on choices I made whether it was color, shots, angles, you name it! I would say the research that helped the most was mise-en-scene since I did not know what it was prior to taking Aice Media and it is simply the overall look of how your film opening appears. I knew coming into this project that I wanted to make it memorable and unique. I had difficulties planning in the beginning since I had no idea what I wanted my film opening to be about and I had to make updates on Blogger 3 times a week. However, as the process kept moving forward, my research and brainstorming evolved into something greater. I made lots of changes along the way with the plot and storyboards creating multiple drafts of what I wanted my film opening to look like. However, I realized halfway through this process that I needed more research to back up what I would be discussing. Therefore, I took a step back from planning to focus on research which was one of the best decisions that I made within this project. I started this project feeling overwhelmed and anxious, but as it ends, I look back and realize how much I have learned from this and how much I have grown from the start of this class.

My last question is How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, and online-in this project? I should first start off by giving a huge thank you to Studio Binder for helping me create my screenplay and to Adobe Express for being an incredible editing tool for my film opening. They both made this project much easier to complete and I seriously do not know what I would do without them. Since I am an amateur at all of this, the only tools I used were my iPhone, a tripod my friend let me borrow, and the lighting from my lamp. I was worried that keeping certain aspects on a low budget would affect the film opening appeared, however, everything turned out fine with little to no purchases. My editing process was not too difficult since I simply put the clips in chronological order and matched the sound effects by using Adobe Express’s audio outline setting. As for the credits and title, I was slightly worried that I would struggle but Adobe Express made it easy as it manually matched the title intended for the clip I selected. Blogger was truly my best friend throughout this process and kept me so organized throughout the past two months. It allowed me to have an organized schedule to keep track of my progression. Overall, I even enjoyed making them as I got to recap on work that made me feel proud and accomplished.

My experience with CCR was slightly overwhelming. Even with the questions broken down, I felt like I had so much to discuss which such little time and I just could not find the right words to say. I think the script above is slightly better so I may go back and tweak my other script before I film the videos just to make sure it is exactly how I would like it to be. Recapping on the film opening is surreal since I feel like it was just yesterday I was struggling to decide what I would be filming. But now its time to finish everything up soooo I am gonna go film these videos, Until next time, which I believe is the last time :(

3/30/24- Lets Debrief

Hi Blog! I know that in my last post I sounded really messy and unorganized but that was only because things were not going how I had planned them to go at first between a busy spring break schedule, computer issues, and stomach bug, I felt extremely behind. On a positive note, I can finally say the finished product of my film opening is complete. However it was not as smooth sailing as I thought it would be. Therefore, I wanted to discuss some issues that I ran into to give you further insight into my editing process since I had little to no discussion about it.

                                                                      Editing Experience

My main concern within my film opening was that it did not reach the two minute mark. This caused me to go straight into panic mode. Since I could not arrange another day for filming, I knew I had to find a different solution. I had discussed in a previous blog post that I wanted to use flashback in order for viewers to understand Avery's internal struggle about the loss of her sister. So to add more context, I created flashbacks during Avery's bedroom scene after the party to show that her sister is all that she able to think about. Adding more time stressed me about at first, especially because I knew that my final product was no longer going to look anything like my screenplay or storyboard which have been my biggest guidelines during this process.

When combining the clips together I began to notice that every scene felt way too rushed. Looking back this bothered me a lot and I would have definitely re-filmed certain scenes if I paid more attention to details. I knew I wanted to incorporate jump cuts but now I think I went overboard. I wanted a chaotic feel but I feel like everything just moves to fast which does not give the audience enough time to absorb everything that is happening.

I had my mom watch it and I could tell on her face that she thought that it did not make sense. I could be overthinking since she does not understand my intent and meaning behind certain scenes. However, this still worried me if my audience felt the same way that she did.

So instead of complaining about everything I feel like I did wrong I came up with a solution. There is no point of waisting my energy on events that have already happened. I cant change the past but I can redirect my future to turn it into something that I am proud of (that might have been the corniest thing I have ever set) but I need to reassure myself that I have come this far and I cannot give up at the finish line. Therefore, I fixed issues that I ran into while editing.

- I added more clips to provide better context of what my film would be about

- I added more sounds during the party scene to further establish my setting since it could possibly be confusing

- Filmed flashbacks when Avery is shown thinking that way the audience can understand what is on her mind

I know this is all a lot to take in but this past week has left me with frustration as this has not gone exactly how I would like it to but I wont let it get to me and persevere instead (I need to stop being corny) Anyways... besides editing I am working on finalizing my CCR scripts tonight and filming my videos on Sunday. This all has happened so fast and I cannot believe that it is coming to an end. My biggest hope in all of this is that the end product does not seem rushed especially because every move that I made was done meticulously. In the end, I just hope it all turns out how I would like but as I have learned from this project, things do not always go according to plan! Until next time, which I believe is the last progress update which is insane to say!

3/28/24- First CCR Script

Hi Blog! I underestimated how busy I would be during spring break but I know I have to push through this to make it a project that I am proud of. Finding time do get everything done has not been as easy as I thought it would be since I have long work hours and I still try to balance seeing my friends since I think I deserve of break from doing school work. However, this project has not failed to consume my life. Despite being off my usual routine, any free time that I am given has been put into either editing, researching, or writing my CCR scripts (I say that as I am writing this blog post on my break at work)

I have finished re-filming the shots I discussed in my previous blog post and now I am in the final stages of editing. I am really happy I chose Adobe Express because it has been super easy and convenient to use especially with how many clips of sound I have to layer in my film opening. Since I am wrapping up my film opening, I have been creating My Creative Critical Reflection videos. These past fews days, I have been researching, planning, and creating my script for my first two questions. As I mentioned in my CCR blog post, I knew I wanted to do a Canva presentation for one of my videos. Therefore, that is what I will be doing for my first two questions. I have just finished creating the script which is definitely going to give me a useful outline on what I will be discussing in the voiceover. I answered these questions to the best of my ability I just hope that Cambridge likes it as much as I do.

                                                                              Script

Hi, my name is Samantha and today I will be presenting the first two questions of My Creative Critical Reflection. The first question I will be discussing is “How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups and issues?”  There is a lot to unpack within this question, so I am going to break it down. My film opening “Derived” focuses on a teenage girl named Avery who is overcoming the difficult loss of her twin sister, Madi. Avery always looked up to her sister's bright light and spirit. Since she is no longer around, her life has completely changed as she feels like she is being “Derived” from the life she could have had if Madi were still around. Now that you have some background information, I will be discussing Genre Conventions. Genre is the first step within establishing my film opening. That was the first major decision when it came to this creation. Genre conventions are story elements such as character archetypes, key events, and settings that are commonly found in a specific genre. These obligatory scenes and conventions are objective, meaning that they need to exist in a story to give it shape and to make it “work” according to the genre guidelines. A genre convention found within my film opening is the death of Madi and how it is affecting Avery’s everyday life. Avery is attempting to persevere by putting herself out there, attending parties, etc. but she just cannot seem to do normal teenage activities because she longer has her sister by her side. I chose not to challenge genre conventions to make my product one that my target audience can relate to. By having a product that my audience can understand, it validates what certain teenagers have to go through and shows that they are not the only people that have to go through a tragic event. I focused heavily on representation when establishing the set of my film opening. My color choices in Avery’s clothing choices were typically duller to show how empty she is feeling. Her room is set up messy to demonstrate that she has given up and is becoming helpless. Another demonstration I made was having Avery view an F she received on a math test to let the audience understand she is not at her best. I did the opposite for Madi, I put her in a bright orange shirt to show that she stands out among her peers and that she is somebody that many look up to.

The second question that I will be presenting is “How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?” I knew when I started brainstorming for my film opening, I wanted to make it relatable for young adults. Target audience must be specific by asking questions such as what do they like to do for fun? Where do they live? Are they mostly men or women? How old are they? Did they go to college? By having these answers, you can figure out what your audience would like to see within a film. My target audience can range between the ages of 14 to 22 who can relate to the struggle of losing someone they were close to at a young age. When deciding shots I wanted to cooperate, I researched a lot of drama films that have been successful in the past with earlier age groups. My biggest inspiration within shots and mise-en-scene was Priscilla. I loved the way that Sophia Copolla created the establishing shots to give a better context of what her film would be about. I tried to do the same with my establishing shots to give viewers a better insight into what Avery’s life looks like. I did this primarily through the set by putting clothes on floor, making “sorry for your loss” cards, etc. The establishing setting leaves the viewers with unanswered questions making them more invested in events to come. As an amateur film maker, it may be difficult to introduce my film to the public. To distribute my content, I would first start with marketing that would be mainly across social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, etc. By creating pages dedicated to my film, it helps potential audiences become intrigued by what is to come. On these pages I could post behind the scenes footage, interviews with actors, trailers, etc. A few examples of these social media pages would be Anyone but You, Mean Girls, and Wonka. To have my film be displayed for the public, I could enter it in film festivals so that other individuals that have interest in new and upcoming films can watch it.

As of now, I am creating my script for my second Creative Critical Reflection Video. I feel a little cramped for time but I need to stay focus that way I can end strong. I may want to review my script in order to make sure that everything I wanted to include is listed, I answered all parts of the question, and my response is written to the best of my ability. I think that my strongest aspect within answering the first two questions is the my discussion on representation in order to get a better insight into my characters through props, clothing choices, mise-en-scene, etc.

I am on a slight scheduling delay since I got stomach bug earlier this week but that just goes along with one of the main lessons that I have learned throughout this project which is that things you set up cannot always goes as planned. In the next few days the only things I have left to do are finish my second CCR script and film the videos. In the sweetest way possible, I cannot wait to be done with this. Until next time!

3/24/24- Solution

Hi Blog! I took a step back because of how busy everything has been lately but I know that there is so much that I still need to do to complete this project. I am currently adding all of my recorded clips in sequential order and layering the given sound over it. I have yet to re-film the clips that I was talking about in my previously blog post, therefore, I will be reshooting those clips tomorrow. I was keeping up with the pace of this project so well and now that I have took a step back, I feel behind. However, I cannot let these drawbacks influence me to not finish what I have started. I am pretty positive that my editing process will be done in the next two days which is super excited and relieving but I always have to lean a lot of my attention towards CCR since it is a huge project contributor. Along side editing these next few days, I will also be wrapping up my CCR research and begin to make a script as well as answer question.

It feels so overwhelming listing every task I must accomplish in these next few days. Therefore, I made a schedule of what the next week or so will have in store for me.

                                                                               Schedule

3/25

- Re-film certain shots

- Continue editing

- CRR Research

3/26

- Wrap up editing

- Begin CCR Script

3/27

- CCR Script Creation

3/28

- Finalize CCR Script

3/29

- Film CCR Videos

By having an organized schedule such as this one definitely helps me feel less stress and pressure about what I have to complete. I know that if I take the process step by step and focus on the journey, I will feel less overwhelmed. I will keep you updated on my progress this week and hopefully I do not shut down out of fear of this project not ending in success. Until next time!

3/20/24- CCR

Hey Blog! As much I have been focusing my attention toward my film opening, I also need to start considering what I will be producing for CCR as known as Creative Critical Reflection. Unfortunately, I was not in class on the day the lesson was taught which worried me a lot at first since I was told that CCR is a huge deal to our portfolio project grade. My fear did not last much longer since my friend who is also taking AICE Media Studies sent me her notes so that I had a better understanding of what it is. I inserted below the notes I copied.

These notes were a lot to take in because of how much there is to answer in one question with such a small amount of time. The questions being broken down into what we should discuss is definitely helpful and gives me a better understanding of what needs to be mentioned within a question. My biggest regret so far within my film opening is that I feel like I did not have enough research beforehand. Therefore, before I even start creating my script, I want to be positive that I have enough research backed up within my response and videos.

I immediately started to brainstorm what I will be doing. When looking through the list of kind of videos I can make, I liked the idea of a presentation with a voiceover. I am pretty comfortable with this since I have past experience with it because of the music marketing project. I also LOVE Canva. It is so easy to use and I love making them represent my taste and likings.

My second idea came to mind immediately. I got my license a month ago and driving is super new and fun to me. I had an idea that I could put my phone somewhere that puts my face in the frame and I could answer the questions while I drive to give my CCR a more personal feel. I plan on doing this alone, with a friend, or with my mom. The only drawbacks are that I do not know where I would place my phone and I would not want to be too distracted while I drive.

Before I come to these decisions though, I plan on doing thorough research so that I know exactly what I will be discussing. My biggest help within research is looking up examples of what I will be doing. Therefore, in these next few days, I plan on watching past CCR videos that way I know what they should look like. I also have to take into account the editing of my film opening still so hopefully I will be able to find a healthy balance between the two. Don't wonder too much though because you will definitely be updated :) Until next time!

3/19/23- The Next Chapter

Blogger, the time has finally come for me to start editing! I had mentioned previously that I was nervous for this step but so far, I have not had any issues with it. I want to make these posts documenting my step by step so that you can see how this came together. The first thing I did was I wanted to get used to the Adobe Express format and layout that way I would know what to do when combining everything together. The first thing I did was insert my establishing shot and layering over the music while also matching the tempo of the music to the clip. This is all sounds strange without actually viewing it, however, it all makes sense when you see the outline and the clip. I continued this process by sequentially placing the clips and matching the timing of the clip to the music.

As I approached the 4th and 5th clips, my mom looked over at my computer and made some suggestions. She may not know much about film but, I completely agreed with her ideas. She said that I needed to put more focus on the cards and picture of Amanda that way the audience would understand the context more. She suggested that instead of having colorful cards that I should create "sorry for your loss" cards that her classmates gifted her. She also said that I should change the picture of Amanda so that it includes the both of us and is larger in the frame of the shot that way the audience knows that it is her and that we would be the center of production.  Since these clips do not include Amanda, it should not be too difficult to re-film them in the next few days.

Clips that I need to fix

Despite this, editing has not been a burden. I am so relieved that I got to film last weekend as it took such a huge weight off of my shoulders. I now have so much more time to make sure that my project is exactly how I want it to look in the end. In the next few days, I will be adding the rest of the clips and making sure that the sound is synchronized to every move and action. I have finished around 15 seconds so far which does not seem like that much but when you put it into the context of this project, I have a good amount done. During spring break, this is the only form of school work I will be doing, therefore, I will get to focus all of my attention on editing and perfecting my film opening. I also have to start brainstorming ideas for CCR (which I will be discussing in my next blog post) since that is basically a whole other project due in the next few weeks. I wont dive too much into since I will be having a blog post dedicated to it but I love the idea of CCR that way I can go back and revisit this hefty project and analyze my decision making.

I may have just started editing, however, I have a feeling that I am going to fully get the hang of it. I am taking a slight pause on editing until spring break since this is the final week of the quarter and I have so much for every single class but after this week, everything that I have will be put towards my film opening. I've come a long way and I wont stop now just because Broward County is giving students a break. Until next time!

3/16/24- Filming Day

Blog, the day is finally here! It is... Filming Day! There is so much to go over. I did not realize how busy I would be on Saturday. I had tutoring at 10am, gym at 11am, homework and studying once I got home, and babysitting at 6pm. Amanda is also busy with an event from 1pm to 3pm and a dinner later today. However, we made it work since Amanda just came over after the event. I started doing so preparations before she arrived such as making my room look like how I envisioned Avery's to do. I took out some brighter colors to make the room have darker mise-en-scene elements, added props previously mentioned in my blog posts such as candles, cards, etc, and did the establishing shots before Amanda arrived so I did not have to waist her time. I added more establishing shots that way the audience can understand the context of what I was trying to produce. I added clothing on the floor to show that Avery has gave up, and an a paper with an F on it to show that she is not only struggling at home but at school as well.

Amanda brought over her tripod which she used for her portfolio project. It was huge help since my hands shake a lot when trying to film a video. It was especially helpful for the last scene were we are seen walking together. I struggled a bit a first understanding how to use it but once I got the hang of it, it became much easier. I don't think a lot of the shots would look as good if I did not have the tripod. Amanda and I were both super tired so doing establishing shots before hand made the process much faster for Amanda and I. I kept her at my house for less than hour. I thought I would need more time since my reference to timing came from her portfolio project which took two days of filming. As little time as this took, I still feel that I have more than enough footage to work with. Before she left, I made sure that every shot looked accurate, that there is nothing I wanted to change/reshoot, and that I had enough footage of each shot so that there would be no issues while editing. Amanda let me keep the tripod while I edit just in case there may be anything I want to change or add.

                                                                   Set/Mise-En-Scene

Changing my room to fit Avery's style was less work than I thought. I took out some brighter colors that I thought may be distracting and put them in a different room for the time being. I set my lamp to the lowest setting of brightness to give the room a darker feel. The colors in the room were mainly tans and grays. I think the set turned out exactly how I envisioned. Below, I put some examples of the set I have created.

                                                                            Changes

Having Amanda around was super helpful since she previously took AICE Media Studies. I made a few last minute changes to the production that I think make more sense. Amanda and I realized that her costume looked like she was dressed up for winter (which I did not think about before) Therefore, we changed her top to just be a plain black long sleeved shirt instead which is more logically since she is going to a party. I also had Amanda do shots on my bed instead of sitting in front of the door because most teenage girls don't sit on their floor for fun. Another change that I had made to make production more realistic was making Amanda lean on the counter instead of sitting on it. Amanda was definitely useful to have around. She made me think of ideas and changes that I did not think about before.

I talked to Amanda about what I should do for editing and asked her what she used and how she did it. She said she used Adobe Premier Pro which I do not have access to since I don't plan on spending money on editing a project when the process should take me less than two weeks. She recommend IMovie but as I have previously mentioned, using that platform is not ideal since I have to layer lots of different sounds. Therefore, I will be using Adobe Express since it is free! I should probably do more research on how to work it before I start editing and if I do end up changing platforms, I will update it on Blogger.

                                                                             Reflecting

I am really proud of myself that I was able to film this early that way I don't have to stress about timing and I can edit on my own time without worrying. Filming this early allows me to perfect any flaws that I feel can affect the final production of my portfolio project. Everything overall went smoothly and efficiently. I am super excited to tackle editing that way I can watch all my work cumulate into a final product. I will not let me nerves of editing this get in the way of how much I have put into this project. If I am being honest, I put effort into this project than I expected. I thought this would just be a project that I do on the side that just so happens to have a deadline far in advance. This project has been more to me than that and has truly taken over the past month of my life. I know that I am not done yet and still have much to do, however, I just wanted to write what I have taken away from this experience and how much it has meant to me. I hope you can see all that I feel through this blog. For my next steps, I will be researching more about editing and credits, picking a font for the credits, and editing everything together. Okay Blogger my hands are super tired from writing this and I have lots of other homework to do as this is the last week of the quarter but, I will see you next week, Until next time!

3/15/23- The Final Countdown

Okay blog, I have been holding this off to long. To be honest though, it is not that significant to my film opening since there is barely any dialogue. However, I still need to have some sort of direction when filming on Saturday. If you did not already guess, I am talking about screenplay (which I had previously discussed but ignored it until now). I went on to my screenplay website and got straight to work after realizing how long I held off on it and that I am going to need it for when I film. To do create the screenplay, my storyboard was a huge help for creating the screenplay as they both serve the same purpose which is direction. As much as I did procrastinate screenplay, it worked out since I knew I wanted to complete my final storyboard before making it in order to ensure that I would not have to make any drastic changes that would effect my scheduling.

Here it is, sorry once again for the delay, my screenplay! (thank you Studio Binder)

                                                                                Screenplay

This may not be the best screenplay you have ever seen but, I believe it fits in a way that is it customized for how I see things and breaking things down. It is on the shorter side (which you could expect since the film opening is only two minutes.) However, the length of it worries me that it will be too short to fit into the time period given. I could just be paranoid since these are only my planning sheets so I am hoping that there is nothing to worry about and that I will have enough footage.

I would also like to mention that I do not know if my parents still have bikes in my garage which could be an issue since that is my ending scene. I put the girls on bikes to showcase their youth and innocence. However, if I don't have bikes, I cannot do this scene. I have not checked yet since I am not typically in my garage but, I have come up with a back-up plan just in case I do not have access to bikes. Instead I could do Avery and Madi getting into the car together and driving away. Amanda and I both have our drivers license so either of us could be the driver. I feel as though Madi's character (who is played by me) should be the driver since she is labeled as the more responsible one, which ironic since Amanda is definitely more responsible than I am.

Having the realization that I may not be able to have bikes worried me at first since thats the way my storyboard and screenplay are written. I am just relieved that I have come up with a back-up plan just in case my idea does not go according to the plan I will let you know soon Blogger :)

I decided to combine my final screenplay blog post since costuming in my film opening is not too complex since it is just two teenagers, however, that does not me it doesn't have meaning. In my final storyboard draft, I added a moment of foreshadowing when Avery holds up Madi's shirt in shirt in the bedroom scene where Madi is then shown wearing the shirt Avery was holding up previously. This provides context as to why Avery was holding up the shirt and leave the audience questioning why it is significant and what will it lead to.

                                                                          Avery's Costume

For Avery's costume choice, I wanted to put her darker colors to have her clothing represent how she feels internally feels with her life. Her clothing choices also represent the fact that she does want to put any effort towards herself anymore because of how much these recent events have effected her productivity.

                                                           Madi's Costume

For Madi's costume choice, it is a direct match to her vibrant personality. She is seen typically wearing bright colors to match her radiant self. The shirt she is shown wearing is the one Avery was holding up in her bedroom when she is seen reminiscing about her memory. I chose the bright orange shirt that way it will be easy for the audience to remember that it is the shirt Avery was holding earlier in the opening. Her clothes represent what her energy was like when she was still alive.

I am slightly concerned on how filming is going because Amanda and I have busy schedules so, an extra day of filming would not be ideal in this case especially because spring break is coming up and I will be working all day so I only scheduled for that week to edit the filming opening and document it on Blogger. Therefore, I will not let Amanda leave my house until I feel I have enough footage. (Sorry in advance Amanda) I want as much shots as possible of each seen to ensure that I will be satisfied with each scene in order to make sure that I do not have to have an extra day of filming. I plan on taking multiple shots of each scene, even if I feel I got a good clip, I would like to have a few of them so that I can pick which one looks the best.

Watching everything piece together is so rewarding and now I get to watch it all come to life on Saturday. Before filming, I am going to experiment with more editing websites on in order to find one that I am comfortable using. I have mentioned previously that I have used IMovie in the past but, I have a feeling that it will be difficult to layer on that platform, which could be an issue since I plan on doing a lot of layering in order for the soundscape to sound realistic. I am so excited to watch this come together after working on this for the past month. Until next time!

3/13/24- Sound

Hi Blog! Good news, I have my own computer back! Since I am so used to using my own computer, having it back makes this process much easier. As I mentioned in my previously blog post, my storyboard is done. However, the completion of it made me realize that the storyboard will not be an exact and identical match to my film opening. Since the completion of my storyboard, random thoughts will pop into my head about more shots and angles that I can create throughout my film opening. My opinion on storyboards has not changed though as I still believe that it will give me a useful outline for what I will be producing. Some of my inspiration of more shots to incorporate come from the new film, Priscilla. I was super inspired my the pacing, music, mis-en-scene, etc. I may want to include elements that I viewed in the film in my own opening.

Finally, may I present, my final storyboard.

                                                              Storyboard

By creating this storyboard, it definitely gives me a clear vision of what I will be shooting on Saturday. My previous research on jump cuts and flashbacks gave me an exact image of how I will integrate those techniques into the two minutes. I also added foreshadowing of possible events to come. I showed this through Avery holding Madi's shirt that she is wearing in the bike scene. All of my visions compressed together into this final outline and I am really proud of how it turned out.

Another aspect that I need to consider is sound. A while back, my teacher had recommended us sound websites that we could use that are copyright free. In order to the get everything I needed, I wrote a list of every sound I could think of that I wanted to here in my film opening.

                                                                               Sound List

The first one on the list I was familiar with since I had used it for our soundscape project earlier this school year. I started looking for music that can be used for the scene where Avery is getting ready for the party. I had a difficult time at first when searching for a song to match the scene. I looked up titles such as "slow music", "getting ready music", and "piano music." However, I could not find an audio that matched exactly what I was looking for. Until I found an audio called "Emotional Piano Background." By listening to the first ten seconds, I immediately knew that I was going to use it. I feel like the facing would fit perfect with the first scene of the opening. Below, I put the audio (it says five minutes, but I only plan using 15-20 seconds.)

I have also been picking out other audios from Free Sound that were in the list previously shown. I am learning more and more how important our lessons prior to the portfolio project are. If I would have never learned about soundscapes, I would have never have learned that in order for audios made to be realistic, a handful of layering must be involved. In order to do so, I saved a load of audios that I can insert to make my film opening for believable.

Sounds Saved

I may possibly check other websites suggested but so far, Free Sound has been super easy to use and I have found almost everything I need on there. Lots of layering will be added to the soundscape (especially the party scene) therefore, I will be saving many more audios.

I am super excited and ready to film on Saturday so final have my vision be brought to life. Seeing everything slowly be brought together has been such a reward after how much effort I have put into the portfolio project. As much work as I may have accomplished, I know that I still have more to do. I hope I do not get burnt out with this assignment yet which I typically tend to do. Since I am this passionate about it, that has not become an obstacle yet (even though it has taken me almost three days to complete this blog post). However, typically when I try something new that I do not understand, I tend to shut down and give up. I need to power through this especially considering I am not used to editing. To stay on the bright side though, I am thrilled with my resilience within this project. Until next time!
